Recipe Clipper for Notion

Recipe Clipper product guide

Use a Chrome recipe clipper to save recipes to Notion

When you find a recipe you want to keep, the Recipe Clipper browser extension sends the loaded recipe page to your Notion cookbook. You can save from the popup, the right-click menu or a keyboard shortcut, without copying the URL into another tab.

Install the extension and connect Notion

  1. Open the Recipe Clipper listing in the Chrome Web Store and add the extension to Chrome.
  2. Open Recipe Clipper from the browser toolbar. Pin it if you want the save button to stay visible.
  3. Choose Sign In in the extension popup and finish the Notion connection flow. If you are new to Recipe Clipper, set up the Cookbook database in your workspace.
  4. Open an individual recipe page with readable ingredients and instructions. The extension popup shows the current page title and website.

Save the recipe in your current tab

Let the recipe page finish loading, then open the extension and choose Save to Notion. When the popup shows Saved to Notion, choose Open in Notion to check the new page. The import creates ingredient and instruction lists and fills supported cookbook properties.

The save continues if you close the popup. Reopen it on the same recipe page to see its saved result or an error. Check your cookbook before saving again to avoid creating a duplicate page.

  • Popup: choose Save to Notion while the recipe is the active tab.
  • Right-click menu: choose Save recipe to Notion. This saves the current page, even when you right-click a link. Open a recipe link first if that is the recipe you want.
  • Keyboard shortcut: use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on a Mac. If another extension uses the same shortcut, check your browser's extension shortcut settings.

When to use the extension instead of pasting a URL

Pasting a recipe URL on the website asks the server to fetch the page. The extension reads the rendered content of the tab you choose to save. That can help when ingredients appear only after the page loads or when the recipe is accessible in your browser but the server cannot fetch it.

The extension still needs readable recipe content. It cannot extract a complete written recipe from a page that only shows a video, an inaccessible recipe card or a list of links. It does not unlock content you cannot access. Open the actual recipe and wait for its ingredients and instructions to appear before saving.

Whichever method you use, compare the imported quantities and steps with the source. Automated extraction can miss text or infer details that were not supplied by the author.

No extension needed: Save a recipe by pasting its URL

What the extension reads when you save

Recipe Clipper reads the current page when you actively save with the popup, menu or shortcut. It sends that page's URL and rendered content to the service to extract the recipe and create its Notion page. The extension does not need permission to read every website in the background.

The connection uses a revocable access key stored in your browser. In Recipe Clipper Settings, the Browser Extension section lists connected devices. Revoke the corresponding key to disconnect a device, or choose Disconnect in the extension popup to remove its local connection.

Fix common extension setup problems

The first 10 recipe saves are free. Unlimited saving costs $12 a year. You can use the same Notion recipe collection whether you save through Chrome, Firefox or the website.

  • The save button is unavailable: open a normal HTTP or HTTPS recipe page. Browser settings pages and local files are not supported.
  • Reconnect appears: the extension key may no longer be valid. Reconnect the device through the popup and complete the sign-in flow.
  • Finish setup appears: open Recipe Clipper Settings and check the Notion connection and accessible cookbook database.
  • No recipe found: wait for the recipe content to load, then try again. Some page layouts still cannot be imported.
  • Subscribe appears: the account has used its free recipe allowance. The website and extensions share that allowance.
